what.i.wore.today…vintage photos
i found this pendant at a craft fair in Boston, December 2010. the artist is Claudia Bruno, and you can learn more about her Victorian steampunk treasures here:
http://www.claudiabruno.com/
it is created by inserting the vintage photographs in between two scientific slides, then sealing the edges in a stained glass jewelry technique.
i loved her work the instant i saw it, but could only afford this small piece. i love the shape, it’s perfect for low necklines, and the vintage photos, one on each side, give the piece the ability to really be two different pieces of jewelry. it is also quite the conversation starter.
get a Claudia Bruno piece yourself @ her Etsy shop:

what.i.wore.today…beads beads beads

i dabble in the making of jewelry myself from time to time, whenever the creative itch finds me unable to be satisfied by writing & research.

this beaded fabric plaque came out of a haphazard collection of beads and some scraps of black silk and grosgrain ribbon. i beaded each motif as a growth of the one next to it, letting the piece organically take shape, never having a particular ending point in mind, or a color scheme for that matter. i particularly like asymmetry, so when the piece reached this shape, i called it quits and hand sewed on a backing of the same silk as the base, to give the piece a clean finish.

it’s lightweight, colorful, and a great conversation starter. i think i may need to pick up this hobby again sometime soon.

WANT…how can a girl resist???

this necklace is by designer Margaux Lange. i have just discovered her and already i believe she is a genius. by transforming the pop culture icon of barbie, whose existence revolves around being ornamented, into an ornamentation itself, she creates true works of art in miniature. the meta-ness of it is just overwhelming.

Ms. Lange leaves no barbie (or ken!) part unused, creating necklaces, brooches, and bracelets from the princess of pink’s hands, lips, eyes, feet, legs, and breasts.

the little girl in me still wants to dress barbie up, but the woman in me wants to be dressed up in her.

WANT.

WANT…lego reinvented by Emiko Oye

these are almost too amazing for words. i want one so bad it hurts. Ms. Oye makes these from legos, but she reinvents the toy by dismantling their structure in such amazing ways that they only vaguely resemble their former selves. the result is truly beautiful, and some of the most creative works i have seen in awhile.

WANT. WANT. WANT.

what.i.wore.today…legos!!

i am a big fan of objects reinterpreted as jewelry - and this lego necklace is a great example of just that. made from an actual lego piece with a perfect little rhinestone taking the place of one peg, this pendant nabbed tons of closer looks today at the office while around my neck. i love jewelry made from children’s toys and think i might need to post some more fun objects, but some i WANT to own.
